Turkish Elections
Turkey has national elections on July 22nd. I remember hearing about it when I was at home and the uproar that was going on over the government here. There have been billboards and Vans with megaphones (yes they still do that) spreading the message. It seems from talking to the locals that they are fed up with current government and though this is a predominant Muslim Country, they want a secular government. It is fun to show a picture of the current president to my friend Muto who instantly gets agitated and says “look at that ugly moustache” Good to know the u.s. isn’t the only country with political problems! A pretty laid back day today (the calm before the storm), we get our provisions tomorrow so that will change. I got my birthday massage today, thanks Heather! I was so relaxed I took a power nap afterward. I was thinking of shipping Celeste over for the massage, but didn’t seem feasible. My offer still stands, if you get a massage from her and you don’t like it, I will give you a free year membership when I launch mydietchef.com, she is amazing! celestialsoul.com. Who would have thought it would be a former customer to kick me in to Turkish mode. Turns out she spent a summer in Istanbul during High School and had a “sister” from the family living in Charlotte for the last 30 years. These carrots sound great, can’t wait to try, Thanks Sandy! I have to run, Turkish belly dancers await!
Turkish carrots
5 Tbl olive oil
1 med, onion finely chopped
1 lb carrots peeled and coarsely grated
3-4 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup drained yogurt or if local yogurt is too thin, get 3 cups and drain in a cheesecloth
Saute onions in a big pot for 5 minutes (do not brown) and then add grated carrots and cook for 10 minutes. Set aside on a serving platter
Crush or press and mince garlic and mix with salt and yogurt. Top with yogurt sauce in the center of the carrots. You can drizzle 2 Tbl ollive oil and 2 tsp of paprika in a design over. Garnish with olives.
